"Despite the characteristically scatological title, the Chapmans - famous for challenging conceptual art that often involves crude and/or lewd elements - have delivered a rather dull show. “Two legs bad, four legs good”, their collectively-titled cardboard/pasteboard/newspaper chicken, pig, cat and dog sculptures, resemble the work of a six-year-old (although admittedly one under the close supervision of a witty, playful teacher).
Here, the artists’ fascination for the grotesque turns into a fascination with cuteness. But the Chapmans are the Chapmans: no matter what they come up with, it’s always worth a look."
The above review of Jake and Dinos Chapmans' new Shitrospective is from the exberliner.com. I am faced here with yet another case of artists who really irritate me doing something I think is great. Their desire to shock notwithstanding I like what I have seen of this show a lot. Then again I like cardboard. Here they are recreating some of their well known sculptures as little maquettes.Go to Art Observed for more images.
